Sun Lakes Democratic Club will hold the next meeting on Monday, June 11, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 N. Sun Lakes Blvd.
Please join us as we welcome FRED DUVAL, the well-known former Chair of the Arizona Board of Regents and longtime leader in state and national Democratic Party efforts, as he discusses “The Future of Education in Arizona.”
DuVal was appointed to the Arizona Board of Regents by Governor Napalitano in 2006. He recently completed his term and was Board Chair for his last year. As a Regent, he was well aware of the decline of graduation rates here in the U.S. as opposed to other countries. He believes that knowledge is a driving force for economic growth and that our economy may be at a serious tipping point due to America’s – and Arizona’s – need for greater educational opportunities. As the president of DuVal and Associates, he consults for billionaire Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens. Fred received his law degree from Arizona State University and later began his career in public policy as a senior aide to Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt. He went on to spend seven years on President Clinton’s senior staff and also served on numerous political delegations to Europe, China, Israel, Japan, Peru, Taiwan and the Soviet Union. He is the co-author of the book, “Calling Arizona Home”, and is a Director for The Industrial Development Authority of the City of Phoenix.
Since it’s election season, we may also have a surprise visit from a Democratic candidate or two.
Please bring non-perishable food items for the Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank to the club meetings. Collections take place in the west parking lot from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. We also have a box at the west entrance of the Sun Lakes Country Club Clubhouse lobby. At your convenience donations can be dropped off there. Thanks for your generosity. Keep up the good work. April donations collected 189 lbs. + $35.00 cash. Total donations collected to date 1,313.5 lbs. + $125.00 cash
Club meetings are held the second Monday of each month. Everyone is welcome. We encourage you to bring a friend.
