Most of the homes constructed after 1996 in Sun Lakes, AZ by Robson Builders (which is the majority of the homes in Oakwood Country Club), were constructed out of Integra Block, an energy efficient construction method where the exterior walls are constructed with concrete blocks. Each block is filled with polyurethane foam insulation. This type of insulation is chemically inert and emits no toxic fumes once inside the wall. The blocks are reinforced with steel rods which are anchored to the foundation with bolts.
But here’s a little known fact, you may also be able to save money on your home insurance costs if you let your insurer know your home is block constructed.
Why the savings? Block constructed homes are more termite resistant, fire resistant, and this stronger construction method results in durability and decreased maintenance. Add to that the fact that block constructed homes are highly energy efficient reducing heating and cooling costs AND are sound resistant… Your insurance carrier loves these facts and so will you!
So contact your insurance carrier to get your discount. I realized the potential for the discount a few years after building my Integra block constructed home and my insurance carrier reduced my payment by $60 per year and refunded me the 8 years worth of overage that I had paid.
